CEFoodCycle - Circular Economy: Mapping Food Streams and Identifying Potentials to Close the Food Cycle
Applying the concept of the Circular Economy (CE) to the food stream (production, use, disposal), the project CEFoodCycle creates a homogenized methodology to avoid food waste, re-use resources, and to close food cycles.
The vulnerability of Alpine areas calls to rethink the sustainability framework towards measurable protective actions. Food waste, for instance in the hospitality sector, occurs due to many different reasons such as food overproduction, inadequate logistics or poorly designed packaging. Little data and monitoring processes are currently at hand and no alpine-wide methodology is available to measure resource savings along the food stream. The project CEFood- Cycle is working on a solution to protect the alpine regions by establishing a circular economy concept in the food industry.
